This is one of my favorite episodes of the TV show NewsRadio which featured an ensemble cast of tremendous talents. This is the full episode, and it is well worth setting aside the time to watch. Here’s a teaser quote from Bill McNeil to whet your appetite:

It smells like an ashtray when I pee…anything you can do to help with that?

And you will NEVER think of the movie Steel Magnolias in the same way.

About NewsRadio:

The cast consisted of:

the late great Phil Hartman, also of:

Stephen Root, also of:

the Canadian guy from The Kids in the Hall (Dave Foley, currently often seen on Craig Ferguson’s The Late, Late Show)

Maura Tierney (later a doctor on ER, I guess they have lady doctors now)

Joe Rogan

Andy Dick before he went completely over the edge from too many “prescriptions”

Jon Lovitz (who would go on to become a film critic)

Khandi Alexander (who later became a CSI – wow there are a lot of lady doctors on TV, maybe someday one will be president)

Vicki Lewis (charged and found guilty…guilty of being HOT!…as well as guilty of being verry funny in Finding Nemo Pushing Tin and Mousehunt)

The series is set at WNYX, a fictional AM news radio station in New York City populated by an eccentric station owner and staff. The series began with the arrival of a new news director. While he turned out to be less naive than his youthful appearance suggests, he never fully gains control of his co-workers.

The fast-paced scripts and ensemble cast combined physical humor and sight gags with smart dialogue and absurdist storylines. Plots often involved satirical takes on historical events, news stories and pop culture references appealing to a sophisticated, college-educated target audience.

The third- and fourth-season finales took the absurdism to the extreme, setting the characters first in a news radio station in outer space, and then as crew members aboard the Titanic.

There are a total of 97 episodes. Reruns continued in syndication for several years before disappearing in most markets. In the United States, the show airs seldomly as a filler on WGN.
