How dumb can people be? This was an obvious act. A few months later, he was back on Taxi (after the writers strike) & touring the country w/ his act (which he never stopped doing).

I would critisize & tell you how wrong & foolish you sound. However, it’s not really necessary. Your YouTube name helps me out.

The crowd expects to hear something really funny, which is natural. Slowly they begin to doubt themselves.

Andy was about service period. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. You couldnt have gotten away with what Andy did unless you truly loved the audience. The fact that it worked says it all.
This thing we think is reality is malleable, illusionary. Andy was trying to get us to grow up and see that.
Andy was all about trying to show us whats behind the curtain. Andy was the magician who gave away the secret of the trick.

The 3 stooges made violence funny, Keaton made machines funny, Chaplin made movement funny, Kaufman made his life a tragedy for comedy

Andy asked a guru once if there was any secret to being funny..he said yes…silence. I think this guy was so far and above the mainstream it was inevitable that eventually he would have run out of places to go.I wouldve loved to have met this guy. I bet if u were to meet him you’d never know when he was being serious, like he really wanted that money genuinely!

Most of you people just don’t get it. He wasn’t a tragic figure, and he wasn’t a sad clown. He was a performer and his whole schtick was to fool the audience often for his own amusement just because he could. He’s playing the crowd like a magician. See the interview with James Burrows, director of TAXI, elsewhere on YOUTUBE.

all the precursors are not for the masses. it’s funny to see that after 30 years a lot of people aren’t smart enough to understand that he was trying to bring people to feel some emotions, and not only laugh. like a clown in an old traditional circus. that’s a way to reinvent the art with a new medium.

i watched it again, he knows what is going on. Yes his comedies were a lot like pulling pranks on people, it worked, and sometimes it leaves you scratching your head. A genius!!!
