Classic Video from Bill Hicks.
‘HBO’ commissioned this 30-minute special after Hicks’ appearances on the Letterman show, and it shows. His scathing wit, biting satire and frequent diversions into profanity are toned down, and though some jokes hit the mark, this is NOT vintage Hicks. That said, there’s moments of inspiration (existing largely in the uncensored material which comes direct from his club shows). For more worthy material, seek out the CD albums ‘Relentless‘ and ‘Rant In E-Minor‘).
A wonderful snapshot of the comedy preacher’s diatribe against all the fevered egos he so magnificently railed against during his all too short lifetime. One minute devastatingly cruel, the other charming and witty Hicks really was a whirlwind on stage and to this date no one has come close to matching his act.
The only criticism that could be laid against this is, that like his life it’s not damn well long enough, though as with all of Hick’s material repeat doses are a must.
To summarise
Buy it, watch it and prepare to learn. The truth was out there…..
