Andy Kaufman IS Slim Whitman on David Letterman

Posted on | September 8, 2009 | 1 Comment

As you may know, I consider Andy Kaufman to have been a comic genius. This is a clip of an appearance on Letterman by Mr. Andy Kaufman where he is channelling Slim Whitman. I believe the clip is from the late 1970’s (my favorite decade) though it might be the early 1980’s. I don’t think Late Night with David Letterman was on the air in the ’70’s now that I think about it.

Andy is generally considered to be the first actual Elvis impersonator, carrying out his portrayal of the King of Rock n Roll while he (Presley) was still alive. And here he magically transforms to the persona of Slim Whitman…wearing an adult-sized diaper…and a turban…any way, enjoy:

I hope you enjoy this appearance by Kaufman as Whitman on Letterman as much as I.

“There’s no way to describe what I do. It’s just me.” –Andy Kaufman. Kaufman is a major inspiration of mine. Just be yourself. Your life will be your art. His ideas were so simple and brilliant. I wish I had a chance to know him. He was an enlightened being, for sure.
